What is luxury for us?

The things which make us happy I consider as luxury things. It seems that it is hard to get... but in another hand, it is easy and all you need is to recognize it.
Luxury are all the things which are off-beat, or exotic in our life. But, I concluded that luxury is not necessary something which has to be present in our life. Luxury is the desire with the view to break our daily routine, giving us some illusion of happiness, even if it’s only for an instant. But in reality we don't need many things to feel good, sometimes even one smile can make us happy.
Looking on luxury in the part of fashion, a Louis Vuitton bag gives us a special taste of uniqueness and feeds our ambitions to look as a successful person. But sometimes it becomes pointless to waste such a vast sum of money just for buying a bag.
People are not just wasting money for an item, they are wasting money for an illusion of uniqueness and success which it represents for them.
Nowadays in the market the idea of luxury is becoming more blurry.
It is undergoing a huge transformation as a response to the ever-changing todays world. Brands like H&M, Zara or Benetton demonstrate us the idea of affordable fashion. The concept of luxury brand is transforming by the idea of affordable consumption.
Although the luxurious brands in fashion market still keeping their high positions, I suppose that in future they will not remain as luxurious as they are today, as mass brands become more and more powerful in the market, making fashion more easy and affordable for people.
Making an outward glance on this theme, I think that the general idea of luxury nowadays is changing all well due to growing importance of saving the nature and caring about each other, but not just riding a gravy train.
Luxury has to feel good to us. But does it fill like good, if you are holding an expensive bag, but your conscience is not clear at the moment? The nature and climate is something people need to care about nowadays, because in the future all these things can become luxury for us.
In todays world the life became very fast and fussy and there is always a lack of free time. Every day in chase of the success we don't pay enough attention to ourselves and to significant people in our life. Bringing love and care to the world as well is caring about yourself is becoming extremely important.
Just watching a favorite movie, having a good time with the family, or inviting friends for a dinner… All these small things seem not as important as they are in reality. Making every day special is just enjoying the pleasures of the moment.

Fashion films

Communication was always extremely important for the fashion industry. Since... fashion itself is a communication. Nowadays marketers use many different tools to promote fashion products and the brands. Besides advertising on TV, magazines, fashion shows and fashion events, fashion videos became very useful to promote the brand in visual, informative and emotional way. Nowadays fashion videos are very popular among successful fashion brands, such as Prada, Armani Exchange, Chloe, Chanel and many others. Short movie is also the way to express clearly the brands values, its vision of life. The video can involve a special meaning which cannot be interpreted in another easiest and fastest way.
I think fashion videos are becoming a very powerful communication tool to promote the brand as sometimes a short movie works even much better than a printed advertisement in magazine.

Trashion?

Trash + Fashion = Trashion

Trashion is a term for art, jewelry, fashion and objects for the home created from used, thrown-out, found and repurposed elements. The term was first coined in New Zealand in 2004 and gained in usage through 2005. Initially trashion was used to describe art-couture costume usually linked to contests or fashion shows. As recycling and 'green' fashion become more prevalent, trashion has taken a turn for the more wearable. The term is now widely used in creative circles to describe any wearable item or accessory that is constructed using all or part materials that have been recycled, including clothing that has been thrifted and reconditioned.

The main goal of Trashion is to make fashion more accessible, creative and ecological. It is a unique idea for the people who unlike traditional fashion and feeling themselves creative, resourceful, innovative, and follow environmental protection. The advantage of trashion is that by re-using unwanted items you can give such items a new purpose in life. Trashion nowadays is becoming more and more popular among creative young designers and the people who simply like creativity and uniqueness.

- Trashion clothing often involves custom sewing, integrating several sources of discarded textile materials in designs which can vary widely, from sleek and hip to more casual and laid-back.
- Trashion jewelry often uses discarded and waste metals, both from within the jewelry industry and outside of it, and artists may use things like bottle caps, discarded containers, and so forth to make their jewelry more visually interesting and to remind consumers of the jewelry's origins.
- Trashion design can also encompass a wide variety of home goods, from tables to vases. People believe that by re-using unwanted items, they are both benefiting the environment and the items themselves, by giving such items a new purpose in life.
- Trashion can also be an interesting exploration for artists, who push themselves to think about things in new ways, and a talented trashion designer can find something useful where others only see garbage, sometimes literally.

''Always On'' book overview

MEDIAMORPHOSIS: THE CONSUMER IN CHARGE

Analyzing chapter ‘’The consumer in charge’’ I came to the decision that in recent years the role of consumer in the market has completely changed. During the “decade of mass media” the consumer personality didn’t play an important part in the market. The companies were selling mass products to mass audiences via mass media. Actually this approach made the work of marketers more easy, but the discretionary authority of the customer – more unconscious. The broadcasting industry was focused mostly on business priorities that on real interest of the consumer. The space of media was limited, so the consumer had no choice but to pay attention to it.
Now the movements and decisions of the consumer have major affect on all the marketers’ business, from how he develops a product to how he forms his timetable. It became necessary for marketers to listen to the opinion of consumer, and according to the received information, build the strategy of sales. David Ogilvy, the legend of advertising, wrote: “The consumer is not an idiot. She is your wife.” That means nowadays if you really want to achieve success in the market, you have to become related with your consumer, keeping a close watch on him. In my opinion, it is one of the keys to success for а marketer.
The ways to affect consumers were fully changed due to enlargement of media area in the past few years. A sphere of internet influence has increased incredibly on equal terms with a rich variety of electronic devices. Today you can connect with internet mostly everywhere, from the mobile phone up to iPod. All these factors have great influence on advertising and sales promotion methods. Due to extension of internet and computer technologies in the latest years, consumers became ‘’freed’’. Now consumers have lots of opportunities to get the content they want.
The professional researches show us that now people spend most of their time on mobile, internet and home video. And as a consequence of this, less of the time – on broadcast television, newspapers, magazines. The conclusion is that nowadays for a marketer it is not profitable to use only one medium, for example TV, to attract customers’ attention.
As a result that nowadays costumer has so many types of media on his hand, media multitasking became prevalent in everyday life. This fact shifts focus of the person from one source to another, what makes consumer more flexible in the world of media. So now consumers must be treated as individuals with an advanced measure of free will. They have more power in the marketing relationship now. An outward glance on consumers’ everyday life – behavior and preferences – is the perspective that became extremely important to the marketer. The researches about costumer can no longer be based on the old methods, such as age and the generic overviews. Now the successful marketer needs to maintain a dialogue with consumers about their needs and preferences. It helps to understand better what actually the costumer wants and therefore educe the target.

During the last few years research techniques and strategies have been improving rapidly. Marketers are making massive investments in the research technologies, customer relationship management, database marketing. The area of marketing is extending in a different ways during the last years. Digital media, in-store marketing, word-of-mouth marketing, experiential marketing are the tools that are extremely important nowadays for the costumer insight.
The evolution of digital world gives nowadays many opportunities for marketers to investigate their costumers’ preferences and needs. Search engines, social networks, blogs, video exchanges, commerce sites, content destinations, games - are the new sources of costumer insight for marketer. The main goal here is to understand which of these sources will work in a more effective way. Digital experience is extremely important due to the fact of media extension nowadays so the marketer has an extensive approach to everyday life of his costumer. Internet revolution reflects on the life of almost all the people in the world. The consumer’s online experience gives to the marketer an access to a rich consumer profile that can be used for every aspect of marketing.

The touchpoints for the marketers now are the media platforms where the consumers connect to brands. Marketers need to know how to build value of different usage occasions. The starting point is analyzing consumers’ media behavior: when and where the individuals come into contact with media, which media platforms, which brands are preferred, and also the occasions and frequency of each of these activities. Drawing maps of the target consumers’ media behavior gives an opportunity to create a brand connection that is relevant and affects costumer. It also enables marketers to determine what kind of advertising they should use, and to identify which media platforms can most effectively move consumers from awareness to purchase. I think for the marketers using media platforms is a very effective way to become partners with consumers. For the companies one of the most important goals nowadays is to learn how to build a dialogue with their consumer and how to listen the costumer in-depth. The marketer needs to be informed about true costumer needs and on this basis develop a product which fits them as much as possible.
Marketers now have to know what twenty-first-century consumer will want. For this matter, they are pursuing new research techniques and pushing their trade, agency, and media partners to provide the most compelling insights possible into their specific marketing targets. Some marketers are using private online communities, which help them connect more effectively with their consumer. Internet communities are becoming extremely popular now, but the main question for the marketer is how to really engage the costumers, make the community work in a more effective way. In the communities marketers can participate in costumers’ conversations, and it leads to a deeper marketing awareness that can be applied to product creation, concept testing, messaging development, or shelf and packaging design. Nowadays we can expect that marketers will develop ongoing dialogues with consumers that are rooted in everyday experience. “We don’t do market research. We spend time with people,” says Jean-Pierre Petit, who heads Nike’s soccer business in Europe. It characterizes what exactly successful marketers should do now.
For the time being people already have an extensible approach to almost any kind of information, music, news, and entertainment for almost free and in unlimited variety. It means that marketers so far need to use more and more sophisticated techniques to reach this group of people given the fact that peoples’ tastes don’t stay still very long. “By the time we recognize the wave, it’s already crashing,” says Venkatesh Kini, Coca-Cola India’s vice president of Marketing.

Nowadays marketing is becoming more and more realistic, it adapts to the needs of costumer, who is becoming the main person to be guided by. Marketers are becoming to pay more attention to the internet, as the main source of the information about costumer increasing their sophistication and precision. The companies now spend more big part of their budget on online media. Because, the final point is that the greater in-depth understanding of consumers marketers have, the more meaningful and relevant their advertising will be.
Personal opinions and tastes of the costumers can provide a much deeper understanding about who they are and what motivates them. Now is the time when costumers want to engage in advertising in a different ways, act, be a part of advertising experience. This fact also can be confirmed by the dramatic growth of user-generated media, expanding popularity of online multiplayer games and virtual worlds. Today more and more people maintain their own blogs, elaborate personal websites, read online periodicals, download music and films online. The popularity of the social networking websites is growing progressively every day. According to the marketing research company BIGresearch, almost 7 in 10 online users reported watching TV while they are online. This phenomenon makes consumers a moving, potentially elusive target. It also opens the way for a creative, compelling interplay between TV and online media. The television-to-Web connection may become the biggest source of added value for TV advertising, generating thousands of additional buyers for its regular production models.
The main conclusion from this chapter can be that the costumer nowadays is always on, so the more company pays attention to the personal opinions and tastes of the costumer, the more information it gets about the costumer - the more effective and successful marketing strategy the company can develop.

Lady Gaga "Telephone"

''Telephone'' - Product placement
Review

Everybody knows Lady Gaga nowadays. She is one of the most influential artists in pop music and her popularity is growing more and more every day. She has been compared to many popular artists, but she doesn’t aspire to be similar with someone. I think she has her own inimitable style, however her music is inspired by glam rock musicians such as David Bowie and Freddie Mercury, as well as pop music artists such as Madonna and Michael Jackson. She has also stated fashion is a source of inspiration for her songwriting and performances.
She writes music and makes grandiose shows. Her debut album, “The Fame” reached number one in Canada, Austria, Germany and Ireland, and topped the Billboard Top Electronic Albums chart. Her first two singles, "Just Dance" and "Poker Face" became international number-one hits, topping the Billboard Hot 100 in the United States as well as the charts of other countries. The album later earned a total of six Grammy Award nominations and won awards for Best Electronic/Dance Album and Best Dance Recording. Totally she has sold over 11.5 million albums and over 40 million singles worldwide.
As an artist, Lady Gaga immediately attracts the attention with her outrageous style and bold behaviour. Gaga is very into fashion and as she stated it is "everything" to her. She considers Donatella Versace her muse. Gaga has her own creative production team called the Haus of Gaga, which she handles personally. The team creates many of her clothes, stage props, and hairdos. The Global Language Monitor named 'Lady Gaga' as the Top Fashion Buzzword with her trademark 'no pants' coming in at No. 3. Entertainment Weekly put her outfits on its end of the decade "best-of" list.
Her style is her trademark. A new artist like her will not create a buzz if you will just dress a normal clothing style. Even though sometimes Lady Gaga’s clothes and hairstyles are weird, it helped her to be recognized by the public.
In my opinion, she uses a very effective way to catch the attention of people. You can love hey or hate, but you won’t stay indifferent.
“Telephone” is a new song from the last Lady Gaga’s album “The Fame Monster”. The main inspiration behind the song was Gaga's fear of suffocation. "Telephone" was appreciated by critics and charted in a number of countries due to digital sales. The song has been particularly successful in Europe, reaching the top of the charts in Belgium, Denmark, Ireland, Norway and the United Kingdom.
This song is definitely a new hit and the video fills in the impression from the song giving Lady Gaga’s image more attention and popularity. Lady Gaga presents many interesting looks in her "Telephone" music video, from crime-scene tape, a '40s suit and hat, a bikini and jacket made of leather and studs to a leopard-print leotard and an American-flag-print bikini. And of course her telephone-inspired headgear. Beyoncé also cathes the attention on her clothing, such as American-flag dress, a yellow latex dress with matching cowboy hat and a funky military-inspired blue satin top with cutoff denim shorts.
“Telephone” is full of the product placement. Only some of the brands actually paid to get in; nonetheless the 9-minute video is brand/reference-heavy. The Brands mentioned in the video: Virgin Mobile, Hewlett Packard, Polaroid, Chevrolet, Wonder Bread, Miracle Whip, PlentyOfFish.com. “Telephone” represents exactly what’s going on in media, culture, and the music video: the doubt about traditional advertising among brands hence product placement; celebrity, couture and hyper-fast visual pleasure; common motifs like the prison, leather jackets, sexual transgression. The music video is a very expensive advertising.
In comparison of the short music film “Telephone” and the similarly designed “Paparazzi,” it is a hard decision to pick the best. “Paparazzi” featured the music track almost continuously after it began while “Telephone” has a lengthy interruption before Beyoncé launches into her portion. Both featured “out there” plots, fashion, and dancing. In the end, I think “Paparazzi” wins out because of the better treatment of the music, but “Telephone” takes the fashion and ensemble award.
GaGa's aim in the video was apparently to bend barriers of what we expect from a pop video and create art.

What is ETSY.com?

Etsy is the website, which provides a marketplace for crafters, artists and collectors to sell their handmade creations. These items involve art, photography, clothing, jewelry, edibles, bath & beauty products, quilts, nick-knacks and toys. Etsy collects unique people showing their creativity in design and craftsmenship. There are over 2,000,000 items for sale by 200,000 sellers from around the world.
I consider that the website is unique in their field.
Etsy is a marketplace, but it’s also a community made up of many different individuals with many different lives and points of view. I found this website very interesting in terms of information richness, ease of use, wide choice of products and comprehensive facilities of self-expression for each seller.
I consider that Etsy is not just a website for people who wants to sell their creative commodities, but also an interconnected and diverse artistic community.
Etsy offers their members lots of possibilities promoting, marketing and sharing skills and inspiration. Each person can create their own virtual lab space, join a forum, chat with other users or join the teams, which are groups of organized Etsy members who network, share skills, and promote their shops and Etsy together. Teams are Etsy’s biggest and most creative grassroots engine for support, networking and marketing – for each team member’s shop, for the Teams themselves, and for Etsy as a whole.
The website is quite easy-to-use. On the home page you can find the alphabetized category list which is an easy way to navigate the more than 100,000 sellers on the site. Under the listed categories there are the Explore tools, which offer shoppers fun and creative browsing options.
For shoppers looking for pieces that inject some originality into their wardrobe or home decor Esty.com is a perfect destionation to search out the desired item.
The site offers their shoppers to find items by their preferred colour, search the hottest items that have just sold and are still available from the same shop, sorts by items that have just been listed or are about to expire, and searches by shops in your area. For individual artists, it enables them to expand beyond the local craft fair and network with other, like-minded sellers. For buyers, it’s an easy way to purchase beautiful items. And for Etsy investors, it’s a user-generated business that still projects a green, anti-corporate image.
The matter of fact that the website is based on 2.0 platform is that the population of the site is growing every day and now it’s not just a point of sale, but also an extensive community. As we know, the characteristics of Web 2.0 are: rich user experience, user participation, dynamic content, metadata, web standards and scalability. These characteristics are a recipe for success for the big internet potal, as Etsy.
In my opinion, the website is very useful and I would definitely recommend it for the creative individuals, who want to sell their products, for the shoppers, who want to buy some creative and extraordinary items and also as an informative portal of creativity and art.
